In my work as an advocate for PWD in community radio, I have heard many times from vision impaired and blind producers the need for documentation to be compatible with screenreaders.
The Roundtable on Information Access for PWD provides some great resources and services for organisations seeking to make their websites and documentation accessible to a diverse range of people.
They produce:
- Guidelines for Producing Clear Print (2011)
- In a clear print document:
• information is easy to locate.
• layout is simple, consistent and logical.
• text is legible and well spaced.
• graphics are clear and legible.
• presentation of information does not rely solely on graphics.
• documents are printed and bound for ease of reading - http://printdisability.org/guidelines/guidelines-for-producing-clear-print-2011/
- In a clear print document:
- Guidelines on Conveying Visual Information (2005) for presenting visual information for the blind, with many examples of how to turn flowcharts, diagram, maps and other images into words
- Guidelines for Accessible Assessment (2011) for trainers and teachers to adapt assessment materials for blind and vision -impaired students
- And most useful for radio producers: Sound Advice Guidelines (2013)
